Grand Floridian Café Lunch Review

Grand Floridian Café has undergone many changes since our first trip in 2012. We remember sitting here on our honeymoon and not being surprised that it was an easy last minute reservation to get and thinking that the food was lack luster at best, 100% edible just not very good.

So here’s the real question, fast forward seven years, have things improved or gone downhill? Stick around to find out.

About Grand Floridian Cafe

Grand Floridian Café is a small hotel restaurant located, wait for it, at The Grand Floridian! If you wind your way through the main lobby, hang to the left, go past the gift shop, and boom, there it is.

It is so easy to pass up the Grand Floridian Café and opt for other dining options at the Grand Floridian. They have to compete with 1900 Park Fare, Citricos, Narcooses, and Victoria and Albert’s. I mean, with competition like that, it’s difficult to hold your own.

The good news is that the Grand Floridian Café is very much holding their own!

We love it here! If it’s a must for you we do recommend booking 180 days in advance. However, if you find yourself tired of quick service we recommend taking a break from the Magic Kingdom and heading over to the Grand Floridian. Make sure to check the MyDisneyExperience App, to make sure they still have reservations available. Personally, we have never had problems booking a last minute meal here but it’s better to be safe than sorry!

It’s also super easy to get to the Grand Foridian from the Magic Kingdom you can either hop on a boat, or take the resort monorail loop. Both modes of transportation are quick and you will be there in no time.

The Breakfast and Lunch menu at Grand Floridian Café do not change.

The food here sticks to classic American Brunch items, a fancy spin on Eggs Benedict, delectable Pancakes. They have a monster lobster thermidor burger that’s been on the menu for years.

There are so many wonderful options here make sure to check out the whole menu.

What We Ate

The Lobster Thermidor Burger was a huge hit for Adolfo. It was a very large burger, and for once he wasn’t able to finish his food. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of lobster so this review is all him. The flavors complimented themselves well, and while there was a decent portion of lobster on the burger, the main flavor profile was the beef. The parmesan sauce was perfectly seasoned but messy. Cover yourself in napkins before diving into this one.

I got the Old Fashioned Buttermilk pancakes. Okay guys, I have a confession to make. I’m a pancake snob. I can cook a mean pancake. Kaitlyn and Adolfo can both attest to this. I measure all the pancakes I eat out to what I can make at home. Most of the time they fall flat. These pancakes though, were amazing. They were melt in the mouth delicious. I could tell that they had a bit of sugar and salt in them and it just took them to the next level. Believe that we will be returning here many times in the future for these pancakes. I know I need to branch out and try other food items from Grand Floridian Café, but I’m not sure I can.

Kaitlyn got the kids cheese flat bread, it was a gooey cheesy mess and she was very pleased with it. As I’ve said in the past she can be a finicky eater on vacation and she gobbled this down with no problems. She got this with a side of fruit salad to somehow magically counteract all the cheese she had just eaten. Such a parent thing right? A side of veggies or fruit makes it healthy.

Our Experience at the Grand Floridian Cafe

We got this reservation last minute on a day that we were flying out to return to Phoenix. We reserved our spot five minutes before we arrived and were promptly seated. Our service was exceptional.  Drink orders were filled quickly, recommendations were given and the food took less than twenty minutes to come out.

This being said, we were the only people eating here. It was 11:30 on a Monday. We don’t think this is at all the norm but we do tend to travel during off season. It’s easy to believe that the service here is probably pretty good on a normal basis. We just aren’t comfortable ranking it high or low when there were no other tables waited on. That being said our server was super friendly and chatted with us quite a bit during the meal. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Would We Eat Here Again?

Yes! We feel like this is a bit of hidden gem. We loved our food and will be returning many times in the future. So much so that we think it’s good enough of a restaurant to leave the Magic Kingdom for the opportunity to dine here.
